I haven't mentioned the two cats that let us live with them. Piglet is magnificent in terms of sheer volume of cuteness. He now tips the scales at a mere 23 lbs. Close to fighting weight. He's just walked up to the office and requested a second dinner. Apparently the first one wasn't adequate.
Piglet's sister is Puner. She has recently discovered that she's a lap cat. With one caveat. She onlyl crawls on your lap for pets when it's inconvenient for you. Like when you're trying to type into your blog.
pics to follow.
How do you know that?

Lou and Denise came over last night. As soon as that phrase comes out, you can assume that at least a bottle of wine was consumed and at least one obscure reference to poets wearing mops is brought up.
We decorated our monster christmas tree. Actually way more fun than expected for all.
I'm in early to re-install application server on one of our servers. It failed. I'll probably spend most of the day trying to figure out why. Yechhh.

Yesteray I ran into the guy who always hung out on the corner of Vesey and Church street before 9/11. I assume he's homeless. I told him I was glad he was OK, and that I worried about him. Turns out he's 78, and has arthritis and felt like he was going to die when he finally made it to the Brooklyn Bridge and the cloud overtook him. sigh.
I spent yesterday building a component for users to add a 'my links' section to our intranet. Simple, fun coding - mindless really. I need to finish that today, but we have people coming over later. I need to help clean.
I read something in the times today about how difficult it is for the families of the victims of the attack. An intense sadness comes over me whenever I read these things. On Friday night HBO there was a program called Russel Simmons Presents Def Poetry. It had a piece by a young Saudi woman that made me cry. It's going to take a while to get over all this.
This posting is emphasizing the sadness of all of this. The fact is that I appreciate all the wonderful things I have in life right now more than ever. I'm a very lucky guy.

It's finally December. That nip is in the air.
Today's order of business....
Oven digital has made some changes to the software for our external web site. It's taken them several months to get it right, but I think we're close. Yesterday I had our dba group port data from the current production environment into the new data structure. So today I have some testing to do.
Also I've got a project to make all of our intranet content available via the internet. Today I'll be testing a new server that will serve as the front door. It'll capture the user's userid and password in an encrypted environment. It also will prompt the user for a securid card authentication. Then the user should have a clear tunnel into our internal networks.
I got an e-mail from Geoff in Minnesota today about a project for a non-profit group charged with driving the rebuild of the financial district. It's a worthy project, if Geoff has time it'd be great if he could help me with it.

Day 1... I'm not sure how far this will go.
A little background. I live and work here in Tribeca. For anyone who may not know, that's the Triangle Below Canal street - about six blocks North of the now infamous 'Ground Zero'. Most days I have to walk past the WTC site to get to my job at the hereafter to be referred to 'Major Law Firm'.
Observations and pictures will follow at a later date, but accept it that you become accustomed to it.
